Mun Mun Cheng

Mun Mun Cheng is Malaysia Resident Partner at Vivien Teu Law Practice, bringing to the firm a combination of private practice depth, senior in-house leadership, and board-level governance experience built across more than eighteen years in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Mun Mun holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) from the University of London and is a qualified Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. She has continued to invest in her professional development throughout her career, earning an Advanced Certificate in Regulatory Compliance from the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, a Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance from the International Compliance Association, a Certificate in Anti-Corruption Compliance from the Basel Institute on Governance (Switzerland), and a Certified Information Privacy Manager designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Mun Mun began her legal career in 2008 and subsequently practised at mid-sized and leading Malaysian law firms, advising on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, foreign direct investments, corporate restructuring, and equity capital markets across sectors including manufacturing, retail, financial services, agribusiness, and consumer technology.

Transitioning to in-house practice, Mun Mun built a distinguished track record across some of Malaysia’s most consequential corporate environments. At Digi Telecommunications (now CelcomDigi), she built her in-house foundation within one of Malaysia’s leading listed telcos. She then headed the Commercial Legal Practice team at PETRONAS Lubricants International, covering the Asia region across a multi-jurisdictional portfolio. At Hong Leong Financial Group, Mun Mun deepened her expertise in compliance risk management, corporate governance, and ethics within a major Malaysian financial conglomerate — experience that sharpened her understanding of regulatory expectations in heavily scrutinised, board-accountable organisations.

From 2022 to 2026, Mun Mun served as Group Legal Director at Grobest Group — a portfolio company of global investment firm Permira — an aquatic feed manufacturer and technical services provider operating across ten countries. She held enterprise-wide responsibility for legal, compliance, and governance functions, leading a team of professionals across Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Taiwan, and China. She designed and implemented anti-bribery and corruption frameworks, whistleblower protection mechanisms, and ESG-aligned governance structures, and led awareness programmes engaging employees across the organisation.

Complementing her executive career, Mun Mun serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of Hiap Huat Holdings Berhad, listed on Bursa Malaysia, with operations spanning scheduled waste management, petroleum recycling, lubricant manufacturing, and laboratory services. She chairs the Risk Management Committee and sits on the Audit, Remuneration, and Nomination Committees.

At Vivien Teu Law Practice, Mun Mun advises clients on regulatory compliance and risk management, corporate governance and ethics, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border commercial transactions, data privacy, anti-corruption frameworks, and ESG integration. Her career across private practice, in-house counsel, and board governance gives her a grounded, multi-perspective approach to each mandate.

Multilingual in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malay, Mun Mun engages fluently with the full diversity of businesses operating across the region.
